Amazon Work from Home Requirements

See what Amazon asks for in remote job listings: location rules, skills, equipment, schedules, and how the application process works.

Amazon work from home requirements change from one job to the next. A customer service opening asks for different things than a software role. The posting you apply to sets the rules, not a general Amazon program.

Most remote listings share a few basics. You need to live in an approved location, meet the listed qualifications, and have a quiet place to work with a reliable internet connection. This guide shows you what to check before you click apply.

What does Amazon ask for in every remote listing?

You must live where the job allows

Location is the first filter. A US remote customer service listing on Amazon's hiring site told applicants they must live in one of a named list of states. If your state is not on the list, Amazon will not consider your application.

Other countries work the same way. A UK listing for a Swedish speaking associate required you to work from your registered home address in the UK. Remote means remote within a set area.

You must meet the basic qualifications

Each posting splits requirements into basic and preferred qualifications. Basic qualifications are the minimum. Preferred ones help you stand out but are not required.

Read the basic list first. If you meet it, apply. If you miss one item, look for a different opening instead of hoping Amazon will overlook it.

What skills do entry level remote roles need?

Communication and computer skills come first

Customer service associates answer customers by phone, chat, and email. Amazon's listings say you will not read from a script. You solve problems using Amazon's tools, so you need to type well, read carefully, and stay calm with upset customers.

Some roles add a language requirement. The UK listing above required Swedish. A Colombia listing served bilingual English and Spanish customers.

Availability matters as much as skill

Remote customer service roles often run 40 hours a week. Many are seasonal. You may work evenings, weekends, or holidays during busy periods. Check the job type and schedule before you apply so you do not accept hours you cannot keep.

What equipment and workspace do you need?

A quiet room and a wired connection

Amazon support roles need a private, quiet space. Customers should not hear a television or children in the background. Many listings ask for a wired internet connection rather than WiFi because calls drop less.

Read the listing for the exact speed and setup Amazon asks for. Do not buy anything until you have a real offer that tells you what you need.

Who provides the computer?

Your offer details tell you what equipment Amazon provides and what you supply yourself. A real Amazon job never asks you to pay for equipment, training, or a starter kit. Our equipment guides cover headsets and setups for other remote jobs.

How does the application process work?

Apply on the official sites only

Hourly roles such as customer service appear on hiring.amazon.com. Corporate and technical roles appear on amazon.jobs. Create an account on the correct site and apply to one listing at a time.

Expect assessments and a background check

Hourly applicants often complete an online assessment. Corporate applicants usually go through interviews. Most offers depend on a background check. Watch your email and your Amazon jobs account for next steps.

How has Amazon's remote policy changed?

Office first for corporate staff

In a September 2024 message, CEO Andy Jassy wrote, "We've decided that we're going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID." The Amazon announcement set January 2, 2025 as the start date.

This mostly affects corporate roles. Remote customer service openings still appear. Always check the work location on the listing.

Remote work is still common elsewhere

Gallup reported in May 2025 that 28% of US employees in remote capable jobs worked fully remote and 52% worked hybrid. You can read the Gallup report for the full breakdown. If Amazon has nothing open for you, plenty of other employers hire remote staff. Our Work from Home Directory lists them.
